How to Check Out the Status of the EEOC's Investigation of a Charge of Discrimination

Generally speaking, within a month or so of you filing a Charge of Discrimination, three things happen: 1) the EEOC will notify the employer that the Charge has been filed, and ask it to submit a Position Statement; 2) the EEOC will write to you and advise that the Charge has been filed, and will provide you with a Charge Number; and, 3) the EEOC will advise both you and the employer of the right to participate in Mediation, and will ask both parties if they are interested in doing so.

Once that is done, the EEOC has a Check Charge Status widget that will provide one with the progress of EEOC's handling of the Charge.  All that you need is the Charge Number.
